Street children in Vietnam
HOME
These photos of street children in Vietnam were taken in 1995 in four major cites in the country; Saigon, Danang, Hue and Hanoi. The majority of these children lived on the streets for a number of years, both in and out of shelters. They left home as a result of broken families and in some cases were orphans.
Families often lived in groups in areas such as Danang and Hue, the children sent to beg during the day while the parents stayed behind.to care for the younger children in the family.
Street children who lived in drop in centers and worked as shoeshine boys often faced with sexual abuse from foreigners. In 1995 there were few laws to protect the children so they were easy prey.
These photos are part of a book project published in 1996 entitled Children Of The Dust, co-written with Ngo Kim Cuc and published by World Vision
